The SURN Science Forum blog facilitates middle school and high school teachers who attended a workshop on using high yield literacy strategies in science class to share and showcase what they are doing in their classrooms, offers a forum for questions, and lets viewers read posts of how teachers are working to effectively use literacy strategies they learned at the workshop.

Field Studyb Hoffler Creek
Took my IB classes to Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve on Friday for an all day field study. Students had to plan, and investigate a problem of their choosing. It was an amazing day. Not sure why I have not done this before but it was awesome. Students tye-dyed shirts, worn war paint for science. I have pictures that I am puting together for presentations. I will post that link later.

Question: Did you have any difficulty in getting approval your trip? How many students participated in the MWEE? Now that you have ad thisnexerience what suggestions you have foremother teachers who are setting up their own Fiedler investigation?
ReplyDeleteThanks.
No difficulty at all since in the IB curriculum the group 4 project is mandatory. About 20 students participated. I would suggest that more teachers take the risk and set-up this type of experiment. The rewards for the hard working students was worth the extra stress.
