Social Media

Seems like teachers should be using facebook, twitter for school and appriopiate use with students. I wonder why these social media sites are so frowned upon by educators. I mean if teachers kept it professional and set-up an seperate account for social media students might be able to really use these websites. What do you think?

  1. One of the teachers here uses Twitter with her kids for questions/review. As for facebook,I think if the teacher as 2 pages, a personal page and a teacher page than there shouldn't be a problem. If your school is totally against it there is a site called Schoology (https://www.schoology.com/home.php) that is a school based site that is set-up like facebook. The students get their own profile and everything. I am in the process of setting up my page to use for next year. You can set up different courses (blocks) and post pwrpts, videos, and notes from class lectures so kids can access it. Hope this helps.

  2. I do already have a separate account to use with former students. There are some students that I would like to keep up with. I would not want to use it with present students. There are web pages were students are able to see there assignments. I am able to upload power point presentations and other forms of media. Students are are to send emails, and send their assignments and project. I really do not want to socialize with my students.
